Thanksgiving is a time to look back on (and forward to) the people and things in life for which we are most grateful; and we at Tampa Friendly Divorce hope each of you had a wonderful and meaningful holiday.
On Thanksgiving eve of this year, TMZ reported about a “Friend-ly Divorce”. (http://www.tmz.com/2015/11/25/marta-kauffman-divorce-friends/) According to the article, one of the co-creators of the TV show “Friends” and her spouse filed their divorce documents and settlement agreement last Wednesday. This means they worked out all the details of how to divide their assets, debts, etc. before filing for divorce.
While the couple in the report did not utilize Tampa Friendly Divorce to work out the details of their settlement, that is exactly the service we offer to divorcing couples here in Florida: Pre-suit (before anyone files), pro se (no lawyers involved) divorce mediation (working out the details of the Marital Settlement Agreement and Parenting Plan) so it can be filed at the same time as the divorce documents.
In the TMZ article, the couple is reported to have had substantial assets – all of which were accounted for in the settlement. (Best of all, they got to keep those assets, versus having to liquidate them to pay attorney’s fees and other costs of litigation.) Moreover, while their children were old enough that parental time-sharing was not an issue, many other couples with minor children choose to go with Tampa Friendly Divorce to protect their children from the emotional turmoil often seen in traditional, attorney-driven divorces.
Tampa Friendly Divorce – Don’t litigate. Mediate your divorce. It’s not just for the rich and famous!
